As many of you may be aware, the world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed will be taking place this weekend from the 27th – 29th of June. The Goodwood Festival of Speed was started by the Goodwood Road Racing Club back in 1993 by Lord March, whose intention was to bring motor racing back to the Goodwood Estate which is located in West Sussex.
Nowadays, the festival features several exciting attractions and events which attract car and motorcycle manufacturers, racers and enthusiasts from all over the world. Here are some of the main attractions to look out for at The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014:
The festival kicks off with the Moving Motor Show on 26th June, where new car purchasers and motor lovers get the opportunity to view the latest car models and potentially test drive them. Car manufacturers and car enthusiasts have the opportunity to meet and view the cars in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The Hillclimb is a tense and challenging 1.16 mile course which rises over 300ft from beginning to end. It’s a real test for even the most skilled of drivers, as it requires the utmost concentration. Around 300 vehicles a day try their luck at The Hillclimb. The record for the fastest time up the course is held by Nick Heidfeld, who completed the course in 41.6 seconds in a McLaren MP4-13.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is actually the only unofficial Formula 1 event which several high profule Formula 1 teams and drivers attend. Attendees have the opportunity to view the cars and speak to the drivers and mechanics.
The rally stage is supported by Skoda, and is truly an unmissable part of the festival. Visitors can trekk through the woods and get close to the cars as they battle it out, and there’s also the chance to meet the teams and take a look at the cars.
